What is an Indian eVisa? 

An Indian eVisa is an electronic travel authorisation issued by the Government of India. The approved visa is delivered electronically to the applicant's registered email. No embassy visit or physical visa stamp is required.

e-Arrival Card: Mandatory Digital Entry Requirement for India

Effective 31st March 2026, all foreign nationals travelling to India must complete the Disembarkation Card in digital format. The option of filing the card physically will be discontinued from this date.

You are required to fill the e-Arrival Card within 72 hours prior to your arrival in India.

The e-Arrival Card is free of charge and does not replace your visa or eVisa. It is an additional entry requirement that must be completed before arrival.

Documents Required for Indian e-Visa

To apply for an Indian eVisa, you must provide certain documents based on the visa type you are applying for.

Basic document requirements for all eVisa types:

  • Passport Copy: A clear, coloured scanned copy of your passport biodata page. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your intended arrival in India and must have at least two blank pages for visa stamps.
  • Photograph: A recent, clear, and coloured photograph showing your current appearance, full face, front view, against a plain white or off-white background. Do not wear glasses in the photograph.

  • Foreign visitors planning to travel to India for tourism, sightseeing, casual visits to meet friends or family, short-term medical treatment, or casual business trips.
  • The passport should remain valid for at least six months starting from the arrival date in India. It must have a minimum of two blank pages for immigration stamps.
  • Individuals who hold Pakistani passports or have Pakistani heritage are required to apply for a regular visa at an Indian Mission.
  • Holders of diplomatic/official passports or laissez-passer travel documents are not eligible for this facility.
  • Individuals endorsed on their parent's or spouse's passport are not eligible for this facility. Each person must possess a separate passport.
