What is an Indian eVisa?

An Indian eVisa is an electronic travel authorisation issued by the Government of India. The approved visa is delivered electronically to the applicant's registered email. No embassy visits are required.

Document Requirements for India e-Visa

These are the standard documents that are required by all applicants, irrespective of the e-Visa they choose.

  • Passport Bio Page: Upload a clear, colored scan of the first page of your passport, containing all the essential details, including the MRZ code.
  • Applicant Photo: The photo must be recent, high-resolution and clearly reflect the applicant’s current appearance.

Mandatory Digital Entry Requirement for India (e-Arrival Card)

All foreign nationals travelling to India must complete the Disembarkation Card in digital format, also known as the e-Arrival card.

Important Points to Remember:

  • You are required to fill in the e-Arrival Card within 72 hours prior to your arrival in India.
  • The e-Arrival Card is free of charge and does not replace your visa or eVisa.
  • It’s an additional entry requirement that must be presented at immigration desk.
  • Applicants can check the India e-Arrival Card Process in advance for convenience.

Purpose: For attending conferences, seminars or workshops conducted by recognised institutions in India.

e-Ayush Visa

Validity: 365 days from the date of first entry on this ETA.
Entries: Multiple entries for all.
Stay: Up to 180 days.
Required: For receiving medical treatment in India under the Ayush systems of medicine.

e-Ayush Attendant Visa

Validity: 365 days from the date of first entry on this ETA.
Entries: Multiple entries for all.
Stay: Up to 180 days.
Required: Details of the e-Ayush visa holder (the patient) is required to grant this visa.

e-Miscellaneous Visa

Validity: 90 days from the date of arrival in India.
Entries: Multiple entries for all.
Stay: Up to 90 days.
Purpose: For individuals who wish to meet their family members living in India, even if they do not hold a valid OCI card.

e-Film Visa

Validity: 1 Year (365 days) from the date of grant on this ETA.
Entries: Multiple entries are permitted.
Stay: Up to 180 days within the validity period.
Note: The e-Film visa does not replace the Government of India Filming permissions. All filming activities must comply with approved locations, schedules and conditions.

e-Mountaineering Visa

Validity: 180 days from the date of grant on this ETA.
Entries: Single entry is permitted.
Stay: Up to 30 days.
Purpose: Mountaineering or trekking expeditions in India with official clearance from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).

e-Production Investment Visa

Validity: 180 days from the date of grant on this ETA.
Entries: Multiple entries are allowed.
Stay: Up to 30 days.
Purpose: For approved production and investment related purposes in India, including Plant Design & Bring-up and Installation and commissioning.

e-Transit Visa

Validity: 30 days from the date of first entry on this ETA.
Entries: Multiple entries.
Stay: Should not exceed 96 hours on each entry.
Purpose: For travellers passing through India while travelling to another international destination.

The India eVisa system does not permit multiple applications with the same passport number, document type, and issuing country. Submitting more than one application can delay processing and may result in rejection. The application fee is non-refundable in such cases.

We recommend waiting until your current valid visa expires before submitting a new application.

Visit the India e-Visa portal and enter your Application ID along with your passport number. You will also need to complete a captcha verification. Once submitted, you can view the current status of your application and confirm whether your eVisa is still valid or has expired.

This is a known display issue that occurs when accessing approved eVisas through iPhones and certain mobile devices. The font rendering may cause letters (particularly "N") to appear misspelled or disoriented.

Yes. If the valid Indian visa has not expired, your child can travel to India by carrying both the new passport and the expired passport that contains the valid visa. Indian immigration authorities accept this combination for entry.
