India Updates e-Visa Programme With New Travel Categories

India has expanded its electronic visa (e-Visa) framework by enabling online applications for Transit, Mountaineering, Film, Production/Investment, and Entry travel. Newly Enabled e-Visa Categories

e-Transit Visa: For travellers transiting through India with a confirmed onward travel ticket; allows two entries and is valid for 30 days from ETA issuance.
e-Mountaineering Visa: For approved expeditions following clearance from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation; single entry, with a stay of up to six months from ETA issuance.
e-Film Visa: For film, television, and digital production teams approved by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; multiple-entry, valid for up to 1 year from eTA issuance.
e-Entry Visa: For eligible persons of Indian origin and certain family or dependent categories; multiple-entry, with a stay of up to three months from first entry.
e-Production Investment Visa: For foreign experts and senior executives engaged in plant setup, commissioning, production ramp-up, IT/ERP implementation, training, and vendor development; multiple entry, valid up to 6 months, restricted to short-term, purpose-specific activities.

Only nationals of Countries Eligible for the India e-Visa under the eligibility framework may apply for these categories. Availability may vary by nationality and passport type.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit their India e-Visa Application online and obtain any mandatory prior clearances before filing. An approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is required prior to travel. Biometric enrolment is completed upon arrival in India, after which the e-Visa is stamped in the passport.
